MORADA DE MUJERES DEL MILENIO


Morada de Mujeres del Milenio started in Richmond, California in 2001 to serve Latino women who had been affected by domestic violence to develop and increase their self esteem and life skills so they may take better control of their lives and to raise healthy children. Rosa Acosta is the Founder and Executive Director. As an immigrant and survivor of domestic violence, she found a need that was not provided by existing service providers.

Is the Founder and actual Executive Director of Morada de Mujeres del Milenio. As an immigrant and survivor of domestic violence she found this organization to provide support to any woman, man or child suffering from domestic violence.

Rosa came to our community from Peru. She arrived in 1985 with her husband  and five children.
 Now she is a single mother with five children and seven grandchildren.
Upon her arrival to California, Rosa immediately entered school and completed her G.E.D  classes.
Rosa continued raising her children as a single parent.
Her mother Fermina Guzman introduced her to the Richmond community. Rosa represented the Latino Parents from   J.F. Kennedy  High School in Richmond. She’s a catechism teacher on St. Mark Church. She’s the secretary of Guadalupana  Association.
She also entered a Medical Assistant training program through Contra Costa College and   received  her certification in 1995.
Rosa was soon hired by the Greater Richmond Industrial Medical Clinic, where she was the clinic specialist in Drug and Alcohol Testing..
Also, in 1992 she became a Spanish Coordinator in the West County Toxic Coalition. In 2001 she founded a Domestic Support group “ Morada de Mujeres del Milenio”. Now she is a Director/ Founder.  Rosa   say   thanks to the Reverend Jesus Nieto   from St. Mark’s Church, and Reverend Filiberto Barrera from St. Cournelious Church in Richmond, for their support.
Rosa continues to be an active member and role model of her community she volunteers for many more community organizations.
Rosa also completed a course as a Crisis Line counselor, Domestic Violence at the STAND program. She also has a certificate in the Crisis Intervention training at the Rape Crisis Center of Contra Costa and Marin Counties.
Rosa got a certificate of Success from City of Richmond and Richmond WORKS program, in recognition of her Commitment, Hard Work and Determination to Succeed.
Rosa became a Family Support Specialist for Welcome Home Baby program. She loves her job because she goes out to make home visits for new parents.
She thanks God, her mother  Fermina, her five children, her seven grandchildren. Sherry Rufiny, director of Welcome Home Baby program, Cathy Akina, supervisor for West County Welcome Home Baby program and all volunteers who make it possible for Morada de Mujeres del Milenio to continue helping others.

The community  calls her an “Angel”.
